Q: I’m going on holiday in a month and am far from bikini-ready! Can you tell me which are the best asanas for me to tone my tummy?

Q: I’m going on holiday in a month and am far from bikini-ready! Can you tell me which are the best asanas for me to tone my tummy?

A: Jax says: The good news is, yoga asanas use the whole body, so you will develop a lean and toned physique all over. However, the trick to toning the tummy is: it’s all about the breathing exercises. As you probably know, breath is the most important aspect of yoga, and of life itself. Try to always breathe in and out through your nose. Breathe in up the back of the spine to lengthen the torso area. When you exhale out create or imagine a feeling of pressing the two bottom ribs down into into the empty and lengthened abdominal area. Maintain some of that length in the spine as you take the next breath in. If you breathe like this all the way through your practice you will tone your tummy. It’s much more intelligent to tone the body from your breathing than from exercises as breath-related toning lasts much longer.
