Let’s clear one thing up – the menopause is no joke! Yes, TV shows poke fun at it and your friends may giggle about it, but until you’ve made it out the other side, the menopause is a hot mess of sleepless nights, hot flushes, weight gain and moments where you genuinely think you’re going out of your mind. So if you want to show your support to someone who is battling with the change, the first step is to avoid these phrases at all costs.

1 “Isn’t there a pill or something you can take for that?”

If there was a happy pill for the menopausal woman, don’t you think pharmacies would be handing them out like sweets? Don’t insult your own intelligence by uttering this question.

2 “It can’t be that bad”

No, we love being moody, boiling hot, and tired ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

3 “You’re too young for the menopause”

The menopause isn’t a switch which gets turned on once you hit 51. Statistics show that the menopause can affect one in 100 women before the age of 40 so although your intentions may be innocent, this phrase could actually open a whole can of worms we guarantee you won’t be prepared for.

4 “You look tired”

That’s because we are – you try sleeping while your body feels like it’s drowning in its own sweat.

5 “Look on the bright side. No more periods”

We’d take PMS and cramps any day of the week, thanks.
