Olive Leaf Extract: A Canadian Buyer’s Guide to What’s Actually on the Label

You’re on a retailer’s website looking at two bottles of olive leaf extract. Both say 500mg on the front. One costs a bit more than the other. Both capsules weigh 500mg. They look more or less identical if you’re only reading the front label. That said, they don’t contain the same amount of oleuropein. The first provides 30mg of oleuropein. The second provides 100mg. Now, it’s pretty clear that the second one is more than three times stronger.

That’s why comparing olive leaf extract products based on the extract weight alone usually leads to the wrong conclusion. To fairly compare two products, the oleuropein percentage is what you need to work with.

The one calculation worth doing before you buy

So, how do you calculate oleuropein per capsule?

You don’t need a spreadsheet to compare olive leaf extract labels. One quick calculation helps you calculate the exact mass of oleuropein per capsule.

Oleuropein per capsule = Extract (mg) × Oleuropein percentage / 100
