What CBG Is And Why More Women Are Curious About It For Soreness

CBG is drawing interest as a gentle option for everyday soreness. Here, the experts at the Rare Cannabinoid Company explain what it is, how it may work, and why gummies fit into self-care

We all know that kind of lingering soreness: Whether it’s the nagging ache from last night’s workout or the stiffness that sneaks up after a week hunched over your laptop. It’s hard to avoid, and most of us wind up just toughing it out. But there’s more chatter about a lesser-known compound called CBG, popping up as a gentle, plant-based option.

This is a familiar story for women: Knees complaining after a long walk, shoulders tensing up after days at the computer or a lower back that always has something to say. Soreness is basically the background noise of busy lives, and most people just deal with it because, well, what else can you do?

But lately, cannabigerol, or CBG for short, keeps making appearances in wellness circles. It doesn’t have CBD’s fame, and maybe that’s a good reason to pause and learn a little more. So, what’s the deal with CBG? What does research actually say, and how do CBG gummies for soreness fit into the whole self-care routine?

What is CBG?

CBG is a natural compound found in cannabis and hemp, and no, it won’t get you high. People call it the “mother cannabinoid” because its acidic form, CBGA, is the starting point for other big names like THC and CBD. As the plant grows, most CBGA turns into those other compounds, so CBG ends up hanging around in tiny amounts. It’s usually less than 1% of the plant by the time it’s mature, according to Utah Canna’s CBG explainer.

That’s a big reason it took so long for CBG products to show up. Growers had to figure out how to breed special plants with more CBG before it made sense to roll out oils, creams and gummies. Now, they’re finally hitting shelves.

Why we should talk about everyday pain

Aches and stiffness are anything but minor, especially for women. Numbers from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics put the rate of chronic pain at 25.4% for women, compared to 23.2% for men, based on 2023 survey data.

Hormones, stress, rough nights of sleep and the usual balancing act between work and family – it all adds up. No wonder so many women are looking for gentler ways to build real self-care into their routines, instead of just raiding the medicine cabinet.

How CBG might work

The science here is still early-stage, but researchers are digging in. Penn State scientists reviewed how CBG connects with cannabinoid receptors, but it does something a bit different, too: It interacts with α-2 adrenoceptors and 5-HT1A. In regular words, that means CBG influences a few of the body’s signalling systems, not just one.

Researchers from Yale, writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in January 2025, focused on a protein called Nav1.8, found in sensory nerves. This protein ramps up pain signals. They found CBG, along with CBD and CBN, could inhibit Nav1.8 pretty well. It’s lab work for now, but it’s a promising place to start.

What the latest research is turning up

Inflammation is a huge part of feeling sore or stiff, and that’s where researchers keep focusing. In one 2026 lab study, published in Pharmaceuticals, CBG cut the number of white blood cells flocking to inflamed joints by almost half, by 48%. This was in animals, not people, but it helps explain why scientists are paying attention to CBG.

There’s more: in late 2025, researchers at Charles University in Prague tested CBG on rats with arthritis. They saw improved scores in the CBG group compared to placebo, though results varied and regular steroid medicines still performed better in some ways. Bottom line? It looks promising, but it’s not a miracle cure.

Why gummies?

If the idea of trying CBG sounds good, gummies are about as low-effort as it gets. No droppers. No measurements. No weird aftertaste. Rare Cannabinoid Company, which also pushes out education about cannabinoids, makes CBG gummies for soreness. Each gummy has 30mg of CBG and 10mg of CBD, is vegan and THC-free. The company points to the “entourage effect”, which is the idea that cannabinoids play better together.

There are a few other things worth knowing: the company posts third-party lab reports for each batch and manufactures everything in a cGMP-certified facility. Suggested dose? Start with half or one gummy.

How to make it part of a routine

CBG gummies work best when they’re just one part of the bigger self-care picture. Drinking water, stretching, a warm bath and sleep – those basics matter most. Some women use a CBG topical for stubborn spots or take gummies after a hard workout.

A few practical tips go a long way: start low and increase slowly, since every body reacts differently. Check lab reports and ingredient lists. And anyone who’s pregnant, nursing or on prescription meds should check in with a healthcare provider first.
